The University of Lampung possesses an extensive water absorption capacity thanks to green areas covering around 44% of the total campus land. This absorption zone includes forest areas spanning 156,183.97 m², parks, and grasslands that play a vital role in naturally replenishing groundwater reserves. Based on routine hydrological analysis, this open landscape management is proven effective, enabling the campus area to absorb back approximately 51% of the total rainfall hitting the ground.
Program Konservasi Air (Embung & PAH)
Water Conservation Program (Retention Ponds & RWH)
Unila has implemented a systematic water conservation program through the revitalization and construction of key storage infrastructure. Currently, there are 5 main retention ponds (Embung A at the Deer Park, Embung B at Rusunawa, Embung C1 & C2 at the Faculty of Medicine, and Embung D at the Faculty of Engineering) which function as flood control as well as water reserves during the dry season. Additionally, the Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) systems at the Faculty of Engineering and FMIPA possess a capacity of up to 50 m³, where water from building roofs is funneled into 13 underground tanks for domestic needs such as toilets and plant watering.
Program Daur Ulang Air
Water Recycling Program
The implementation of water recycling at the University of Lampung has been widely carried out to minimize groundwater exploitation and is allocated for non-potable needs. Approximately 48% of the extracted groundwater (excluding AquaNila drinking water production) is channeled back into artificial ecosystems to support freshwater fish cultivation and aquatic ecology research. This policy is reinforced at the faculty level, such as at the Faculty of Medicine, which redirects graywater from ablution (wudhu) and AC condensation to water landscape plants and operate building water fountains.
Penggunaan Alat Hemat Air
Use of Water-Efficient Appliances
Unila progressively replaces conventional water fixtures with water-efficient faucet and sanitary technologies to optimize wastewater generation efficiency. The average percentage of water-saving appliances used (such as motion-sensor faucets, low-flush toilets, and automatic valves) across all faculty buildings has reached 75.5%. In the fulfillment roadmap of this infrastructure, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) and the Faculty of Engineering lead the implementation with smart fixture installation rates reaching 85%.
Konsumsi Air Terolah (AquaNila)
Consumption of Treated Water (AquaNila)
The University of Lampung independently produces ready-to-consume treated drinking water under the local brand AquaNila, managed directly by the Food Technology Laboratory. This sterilization facility integrates the utilization of membrane filter technology, UV disinfection lamps, and strict hygiene monitoring systems to guarantee pure drinking water quality for the campus community. Based on recapitulation data, the accumulated total consumption of AquaNila treated water from January to October successfully reached 385,187 liters.
Pengendalian Pencemaran Air
Water Pollution Control
Water pollution control and minimization efforts at Unila are routinely carried out through the monitoring of physical, chemical, and biological water quality parameters. The institution successfully achieved a MURI record through the mass pouring initiative of eco-enzyme fluid into the retention pond ecosystems to reduce the concentration of natural organic pollutants. The disposal sector is also reinforced by a Biogas reactor and a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP/IPAL) installation with a capacity of 30 m³ to ensure that liquid waste (including from the livestock cluster at the Faculty of Agriculture) is treated safely before being discharged into public channels or reused for field irrigation. This entire water management program directly supports the achievement of 9 global SDG target points, primarily SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
